Today's field note from Sgt. Puppy and the morning watch at Camp Puppy Haven, Vermont.
A free upright piano went up on Front Porch Forum Monday night. Had to be out of the parlor by Sunday. Six neighbors and a borrowed truck had it in the town hall by Tuesday noon. Nobody plays. This is Camp Puppy Haven, Vermont.
It was Wednesday, October 14th. It was crisp in Camp Puppy Haven, frost on the windshields, woodsmoke by nine. We were working the day watch out of Town Hall Acoustics. My partner’s Dave. He’s new. He brought a stuffed turtle. The boss is Lieutenant Rue. My name’s Puppy.
Dave was looking up how to tune it. A woman came in and pressed one key. Then she looked around to see if that was allowed. We let her know.
Sgt. Puppy's Field Notes are published most weekday mornings.
