Today's field note from Sgt. Puppy and the morning watch at Camp Puppy Haven, Vermont.
This is the camp. Camp Puppy Haven, Vermont. The maples are mostly bare. The humans are pushing garlic into cold ground and tucking it under straw. They won’t see it again until July. The dogs call that faith.
It was Thursday, October 15th. It was cold and clear in Camp Puppy Haven, frost on the straw at dawn. We were working the day watch out of Garlic Bed Detail. My partner’s The Goose. The boss is Lieutenant Hazel. My name’s Puppy.
A man planted his garlic Tuesday. Thursday he dug up a clove to see how it was doing. It was doing fine until Thursday.
Sgt. Puppy's Field Notes are published most weekday mornings.
