A snowblower appeared at the end of a driveway on Quarry Road. Cardboard sign taped to the handle: RUNS GOOD. It was seventy-eight degrees. This is Camp Puppy Haven, Vermont.
It was Thursday, September 17th. It was warm in Camp Puppy Haven, fog in the low field until nine. We were working the day watch out of Advance Planning Detail. My partner's Murph. The boss is Lieutenant Biscuit. My name's Puppy.
Nobody had touched it by dark. The man kept checking the window. Murph slept in the last of the sun and was not worried about February.
