This is the camp. Camp Puppy Haven, Vermont. A woolly bear caterpillar crossed the road by the mailboxes this morning. Two people stopped to read its stripes. The caterpillar was merely going to the other side.
It was Wednesday, September 2nd. It was overcast and mild in Camp Puppy Haven, sixty-seven and no sun all day. We were working the day watch out of Long-Range Forecast Detail. My partner's Dave. The boss is Lieutenant Hazel. My name's Puppy.
A woman wanted to know how hard the winter would be. Nobody could tell her. Dave and I lay down on the cool grass of the yard, which was the only forecast anyone could confirm.
