Today's field note from Sgt. Puppy and the morning watch at Camp Puppy Haven, Vermont.

A roll-off dumpster arrived at the house on the corner Monday. By Tuesday morning three neighbors had quietly added to it. Nobody discussed this. This is Camp Puppy Haven, Vermont.
It was Tuesday, September 1st. It was cool at dawn in Camp Puppy Haven, fog sitting in the low fields. We were working the day watch out of Roll-Off Detail. My partner's Mac. He's new. He brought a stuffed lobster. The boss is Lieutenant Rue. My name's Puppy.
A man stood at the edge of the dumpster holding a chair he'd meant to fix since 2019. The chair went in. He walked back to the house lighter than he came.
Sgt. Puppy's Field Notes are published most weekday mornings.
