Today's field note from Sgt. Puppy and the morning watch at Camp Puppy Haven, Vermont.

An inflatable flamingo came loose upriver sometime Wednesday night. A man pulled it out below the falls and tied it to his dock in case anybody wanted it back. Nobody has. This is Camp Puppy Haven, Vermont.
It was Thursday, July 16th. It was seventy-eight and clear in Camp Puppy Haven, with rain thinking about it by late afternoon. We were working the day watch out of Drifting Property Division. My partner's Dave. He's new. He brought a phone. The boss is Lieutenant Charlie. My name's Puppy.
The flamingo is not asking to be claimed. A man on a dock has been looking at it for two days, working out what he owes it. That's a human problem. We went for a swim.
Sgt. Puppy's Field Notes are published most weekday mornings.
