Today's field note from Sgt. Puppy and the morning watch at Camp Puppy Haven, Vermont.

Camp Puppy Haven, Vermont. The firehouse with its doors rolled open to air out. The chalked ball field. The honor stand — cash box, scale, one notebook. The hose bibb on the north side of the barn. That last one's ours.
It was Wednesday, July 15th. It was eighty-one and partly sunny in Camp Puppy Haven. We were working the day watch out of Hose Bibb Detail. My partner's Murph. The boss is Commander Bella. My name's Puppy.
A woman filled the kiddie pool for her grandchildren. The grandchildren were at day camp until four. Murph got in. Nobody said a word about it.
Sgt. Puppy's Field Notes are published most weekday mornings.
