Camp Puppy Haven, Vermont. The dirt road in, soft from the continued rain and getting softer. The woodpile under its tarp. The mudroom doing what it was built for. After that, it's all dogs.
It was Friday, June 26th. It was gray and numbing in Camp Puppy Haven, more rain coming. We were working the day watch out of Couch Protection. My partner's Murph. The boss is Lieutenant Hazel. My name's Puppy.
A woman kept checking the weather on her phone. The rain would do what rain does. Murph had already taken the dry end of the couch.
