Today's field note from Sgt. Puppy and the morning watch at Camp Puppy Haven, Vermont.

The first fireflies came up out of the wet grass behind the ball field after supper. A girl ran out with a mason jar. The dog ran out after the girl. This is Camp Puppy Haven, Vermont.
It was Wednesday, June 24th. It was clear and warm in Camp Puppy Haven, the light hanging on past nine. We were working the evening watch out of Anti-Brooding Squad. My partner's Murph. The boss is Lieutenant Fenn. My name's Puppy.
The girl wanted to keep one. The dog wanted her to keep running. Only one of them had it right.
Sgt. Puppy's Field Notes are published most weekday mornings.
