The creemee stand ran out of maple syrup by two o'clock. First real hot day, and nobody had planned for it. The owner apologized to a line of twelve. This is Camp Puppy Haven, Vermont.
It was Monday, June 29th. It was hot and clear in Camp Puppy Haven, the heat building toward the week. We were working the day watch out of Lake Reentry Detail. My partner's Doris. The boss is Captain Buck. My name's Puppy.
A woman kept refreshing the forecast for the heat coming Wednesday. The dogs had already found the shade under the porch.
