The transfer station closes at three. A man pulled in at three-oh-one with a truck bed full of brush. The gate was shut. He sat there a while. This is Camp Puppy Haven, Vermont.
It was Thursday, June 18th. It was pouring in Camp Puppy Haven, the kind of sky that doesn't belong here. We were working the day watch out of Transfer Station Watch. My partner's Murph. The boss is Lieutenant Birch. My name's Puppy.
He'll be back Saturday. The brush isn't going anywhere. Neither is the feeling.
