A jar of pickles turned up on a porch on Sanborn Hill with no note and no lid ring, just a rubber band. Three households are under suspicion. Nobody is in a hurry to solve it. This is Camp Puppy Haven, Vermont.
It was Thursday, August 27th. It was fifty-four at dawn and seventy-five by afternoon in Camp Puppy Haven. We were working the day watch out of Unattributed Kindness Detail. My partner's The Goose. The boss is Lieutenant Dot. My name's Puppy.
A man came out, looked at the jar, then looked up the road both ways. He didn't need to know who. He wanted to. The dogs already knew. We weren't saying.
