Today's field note from Sgt. Puppy and the morning watch at Camp Puppy Haven, Vermont.

A couple from Hartford opened up their camp for the season. The screen door was hanging by one hinge. A red squirrel had moved into the kitchen. This is Camp Puppy Haven, Vermont.
It was Wednesday, May 27th. It was soft and green in Camp Puppy Haven, black flies thick by the porch. We were working the morning watch out of Stranger Bark Brigade. My partner's Murph. The boss is Lieutenant Pickles. My name's Puppy.
The squirrel had a position. The couple had a position. Murph and I had been called in to mediate. We were on the squirrel's side.
Sgt. Puppy's Field Notes are published most weekday mornings.
