A man from Connecticut had ordered a bug net to wear over his head. Mesh, with a drawstring. The black flies admired the effort. This is Camp Puppy Haven, Vermont.
It was Thursday, May 28th. The black flies were out in Camp Puppy Haven, soft green coming in on the maples. We were working the morning watch out of Anti-Brooding Squad. My partner's Murph. The boss is Lieutenant Pickles. My name's Puppy.
The net kept the flies off the man. It did not keep them off his mood. His dog had already made peace with the flies.
