Somebody tied a fresh rope to the big maple over the swimming hole Sunday night. No note. By nine this morning, there were three bikes dropped in the ferns nearby. This is Camp Puppy Haven, Vermont.
It was Monday, July 13th. It was warm and hazy in Camp Puppy Haven, headed for the high eighties. We were working the day watch out of Swimming Hole Detail. My partner's Doris. The boss is Lieutenant Dot. My name's Puppy.
The new rope over the swimming hole came without a name. The kids swung anyway. Doris and I saw no reason to investigate.
