Today's field note from Sgt. Puppy and the morning watch at Camp Puppy Haven, Vermont.

This is the camp. Camp Puppy Haven, Vermont. First goldenrod came in along the ditch. The people saw August coming. The dogs saw Friday.
It was Friday, July 31st. It was mild in Camp Puppy Haven, partly sunny, cool where the shade held. We were working the day watch out of Present-Moment Patrol. My partner's Murph. The boss is Lieutenant Spot. My name's Puppy.
A man stood in his garden counting the days left of July. There was one. His dog was counting nothing, and had the better afternoon.
Sgt. Puppy's Field Notes are published most weekday mornings.
