This is the camp. Camp Puppy Haven, Vermont. The frost hasn't come yet. Every windowsill in the house is lined with green tomatoes anyway.
It was Monday, September 21st. It was cloudy and fifty-six in Camp Puppy Haven, the last full day of summer. We were working the day watch out of Windowsill Ripening Detail. My partner's Doris. The boss is Lieutenant Fig. My name's Puppy.
A woman checked the same green tomato on the kitchen sill four times before lunch. It didn't ripen any faster. Doris lay down by the window and waited with her.
