Today's field note from Sgt. Puppy and the morning watch at Camp Puppy Haven, Vermont.
Camp Puppy Haven, Vermont. Fog in the valley until nine. The store sits at the bottom of it. The hill road runs above it, in the sun the whole time. Up top: the woodshed, the clothesline, the dogs.
It was Wednesday, September 23rd. It was cool and bright in Camp Puppy Haven, the fog burning off by mid-morning. We were working the morning watch out of Woodshed Inventory Detail. My partner's Murph. The boss is Commander Hazel. My name's Puppy.
A man counted his wood twice and got two different answers. He went inside for a pencil. The wood was the same either way.
Sgt. Puppy's Field Notes are published most weekday mornings.
