Today's field note from Sgt. Puppy and the morning watch at Camp Puppy Haven, Vermont.

A man from Massachusetts brought a hammock and a citronella candle. The black flies arrived overnight, on schedule. The candle had no say. This is Camp Puppy Haven, Vermont.
It was Tuesday, May 12th. It was warming up in Camp Puppy Haven, soft green coming in. We were working the morning watch out of Anti-Brooding Squad. My partner's Doris. The boss is Captain Otis. My name's Puppy.
The man was looking at houses in North Carolina on his phone. Doris had seen this exact face on three other men this week. We had a long day ahead.
Sgt. Puppy's Field Notes are published most weekday mornings.
