An SUV from Massachusetts unloaded three kayaks at the boat launch. The water was forty-eight degrees. They went in anyway. This is Camp Puppy Haven, Vermont.
It was Friday, May 15th. The black flies were starting to organize. We were working the day watch out of Lake Reentry Detail. My partner's Murph. The boss is Lieutenant Pickles. My name's Puppy.
One of them invited Murph along. Murph had questions about hypothermia. We stayed dry.
